Robins to Play Ft. Valley State Army ROTC in Basketball Competition

 

Robins will hold a basketball game today at 1:00 pm at the base gym, culminating a month-long of activities in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  

The game will feature the Ft Valley State Army ROTC “Wildcats versus the Robins base team. The Russell Elementary “Jumping Patriots” will provide half-time entertainment.

Air Force Reserve Band to Perform at Shirley Hill Elementary

 

The Band of the Air Force Reserve will perform at Shirley Hill Elementary April 30, 2013, as part of Month of the Military Child celebration. The performance will take place at 2:30 p.m.

During the program, the school will recognize its military children and families.  The Air Force Reserve Band members will present one of their last performances in the area before the band is fully deactivated in June.

Chamber Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Body Blyng

WARNER ROBINS, GA- The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a Ribbon Cutting Body Blyng.

Started as a project by sisters Kin Hathcock and Pam Smith, Body Blyng offers professional face painting, and temporary body art for events and special occasions.

“We make an ordinary event into an extraordinary affair,” said Smith.  “From small birthday celebrations to church and school events, grand openings and customer appreciation days, Body Blyng can provide fun for all ages.”

Additionally, Body Blyng offers temporary glitter tatoos, temporary air brush tattoos, balloon twisting, and henna for events and parties.  They are licensed and insured.

2013 Houston County Valedictorians, Salutatorians Named

The Houston County School System’s Classes of 2013 have announced the valedictorian and salutatorian of each high school’s graduating class.  The top graduates are:

--Houston County High - Valedictorian Will Freeman, Salutatorian Abigail Olsen;

--Northside High – Valedictorian Sarah Currier, Salutatorian Hunter Smith;

--Perry High - Valedictorian Tyler Claxton, Salutatorian Elizabeth Lewis;

--Veterans High -  Valedictorian Brandon Cauley, Salutatorian Brian Decker; and

--Warner Robins High - Valedictorian Ashleigh Austel, Salutatorian Kathryn Martin.

The Houston County Association for Gifted Children is hosting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Family Night April 26, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The event is held in partnership with the Museum of Aviation and is funded by a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) grant.  STEM Family Night will be held at Houston County High School in the cafeteria.  This event is open to the public.

The Museum of Aviation will have 30 stations for students and their families to participate in hands-on activities to better understand space aviation and aerospace technology.  Calla Busby, Museum Family STEM Adventure Lead Instructor, will be present to answer questions.

JROTC Students to Attend Georgia Premiere of Documentary

More than 300 Houston County JROTC students will attend the Georgia premiere of "Honor Flight."

According to a release, U.S. Congressman Austin Scott  in conjunction with the Warner Robins Museum of Aviation and Sonny’s BBQ bring the premiere to Georgia.

About the film:

Honor Flight is a heartwarming documentary about four living World War II veterans and a Midwest community coming together to give them the trip of a lifetime. Volunteers race against the clock to fly thousands of WWII veterans to Washington, DC to see the memorial constructed for them in 2005, nearly 60 years after the War

Chamber Hosts 2013 Youth Leadership Robins Region Graduation

WARNER ROBINS, GA- The Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce will honor 24 outstanding high school juniors at the 2012/2013 Youth Leadership Robins Region Graduation.  Event will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Museum of Aviation (Scott Theatre).

After a vigorous six month program, 24 budding leaders will be recognized and honored for completion of the Youth Leadership Robins Region Program.  The Youth Leadership RR program exposes young leaders to the key elements that form a strong and dynamic community and thus encourages their input and creativity.  It makes students aware of the many opportunities for them to remain in the Robins Region after their post-secondary education by equipping students with the tools needed for future leadership roles in our society.  Selection was based on character, interest in the community and the desire to shape idea and attitudes in others.
