Houston County Schools won't make up weather days

HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – The Houston County School System will not make up the school days missed due to inclement weather.  On Feb. 20, 2014, the State Board of Education approved State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge’s recommendation to give school districts flexibility to decide whether or not to make up the days.  Superintendent Dr. Robin Hines has decided that Houston County will not make up the one day that exceeded the four days allowed for inclement weather.

Houston County Superintendent to retire

Houston County Superintendent Robin Hines announced Friday morning that he will retire at the end of the school year.

Hines made the announcement to the Board of Education staff during a regularly scheduled meeting.

He e-mailed a letter to other system staff, saying, "I want to let you know that after much consideration, I have made the decision to retire at the end of this school year."

Houston County students perform holiday concert at Galleria Mall

Twenty elementary school choruses from Houston County will perform at the Galleria Mall in Centerville beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2013.  They will perform throughout the day near the food court until 7:30 p.m.

 

The schedule follows.

·         9:00 a.m. ~ Shirley Hills Elementary

·         9:30 a.m. ~ David Perdue Elementary

·         10:00 a.m. ~ David Perdue Primary

·         10:30 a.m. ~ Hilltop Elementary

·         11:00 a.m. ~ Pearl Stephens Elementary
