The Air Force Times--A bipartisan group of six senators announced Monday that they are trying to find a way to avoid sequestration in January.

The group includes the Democratic chairman and ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, both of whom said they are worried about the impact of across-the-board cuts on defense programs.

Col. Gail Halvorsen had lost a fellow pilot and friend to the Germans. Now here he was, helping to keep 2 million people alive after the Soviet Union cut off supply routes in June 1948.

Joint STARS Guard Wing to Change Command This Fall

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga.--116th Air Control Wing changes leadership this fall.

On October 25, Colonel Kevin Clotfelter assumes command from Brig. Gen. William Welsh, according to a Robins Air Force Base news release.

Colonel Clotfelter who is currently the 116th Opoerations Group Commander, has long-running experience in B-52, B-1B and E-8C Joint STARS flight operations. He has commanded at both squadron and group levels.

Welsh accepts his next assignment at Bolling AFB in Washington D.C. after 16 years in the Georgia National Guard.

Schools and Legislators Celebrate Constitution Day

 

Houston County, GA – Houston County schools will celebrate Constitution Day on Sept. 17, 2012.  This day is set aside annually to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, and those who have become U.S. citizens.  Three elementary schools will have special guests to help celebrate Constitution Day.  Senator Ross Tolleson will speak at Morningside Elementary at 9:00 a.m.; Sherriff Cullen Talton will visit Bonaire Elementary at 10:00 a.m.; and County Commissioner Gail Robinson will address Matt Arthur Elementary students at 9:35 a.m.

Base Pavillion Under Renovation

Workers remove old shingles from the roof of Friendship pavilion at Robins Park. The pavilion is undergoing a $37,000 renovation. The pavilion will be re-shingled and the missing boards on the roof are being replaced. The two smaller pavilions at Robins Park require less work, which will be completed later on this fall.
