Schools and Legislators Celebrate Constitution Day

Houston County, GA – Houston County schools will celebrate Constitution Day on Sept. 17, 2012.  This day is set aside annually to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, and those who have become U.S. citizens.  Three elementary schools will have special guests to help celebrate Constitution Day.  Senator Ross Tolleson will speak at Morningside Elementary at 9:00 a.m.; Sherriff Cullen Talton will visit Bonaire Elementary at 10:00 a.m.; and County Commissioner Gail Robinson will address Matt Arthur Elementary students at 9:35 a.m.

The three elected officials will speak to fifth grade classes, reaching a total of about 365 children.  They will discuss the importance of our Constitution and the vision of our Founding Fathers when they gathered in Philadelphia and produced a charter to promote justice and preserve liberty.  The officials will also give the children Liberty Day Constitution booklets which contain copies of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, as well as flashcards, important dates, all amendments and quotes.

The visits were coordinated as a non-partisan project by Varie Rustin with the Georgia Federation of Republican Women (GFRW).  Rustin serves as the GFRW Congressional District 8 Director.
