Talk about convenience. 

This Saturday, you can head over to Lake Joy Elementary School for a Drive-Through Girl Scout Cookie Booth.

Girl Scout Daisy Troop 60008, Brownies troop 60016, Juniors troop 60047 and 60054 Cadettes and Seniors will (wo)man the booth from 10-2 Saturday, March 2. They'll sell Girl Scout cookies and collect donations for service projects such as sending cookies to deployed airmen from Robins AFB.

Sweeping budget cuts going into effect Friday create a paradox for military medicine: spending money to save money, Army, Navy and Air Force medical officials say.

As thousands of civilian medical workers are furloughed because of the “sequester,” patients will be sent to private doctors at public expense to receive timely medical care, according to the military medical officials.

5th Combat Communications Recognized for Excellence

 

A Robins unit has been recognized for excellence by the Air Force.

Robins Air Force Base, GA. The 5th Combat Communications Group is the winner

of the service’s 2012 information dominance award for large units. The

annual award is given to teams and units who best conduct information

dominance and cyberspace operations in support of Air Force and Department

of Defense operations.

Col. William Waynick, 5th CCG commander, said the award is a validation of

the hard work and sacrifices his Airmen and their families put forth over

the past year.

Some of the 5th CCG's accomplishments during the award period include having

the last cyber Airmen "boots on the ground" during the end of Operation

Iraqi Freedom, providing cyber support to more than 3,000 International

Security Assistance Force personnel, and establishing an Operation Enduring

Freedom command and control radio net.

President Obama’s State of the Union pledge to reduce by half the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan within a year drew quick complaints from a top House Republican.

“By the end of next year, our war in Afghanistan will be over,” Obama said before Congress in a televised address. “After a decade of grinding war, our brave men and women in uniform are coming home.”
