Master Sgt. Gene B. Jameson III receives a Bronze Star medal with valor this week for his service in Afghanistan, according to a Robins Air Force Base news release.

While in Afghanistan, Jameson directed heavy equipment efforts to combat a 5-acre fire caused an enemy rocket attack.

"On his fourth trip into the compound, he discovered two crates of grenades and shoulder-launched missiles only 10 feet from advancing flames.  His crisis leadership during the five-hour ordeal prevented the munitions from detonating and saved the lives of 50 personnel battling the blaze," according to the release.

Colonel Joseph Scherrer, the 689th Combat Communications Wing Commander, presents the medal to Master Sgt. Jameson Thursday at 2 p.m. That's in Robins' South training area.
