Operation Back to School: Help WMAZ Donate Supplies

 

On Thursday, 13WMAZ's employees will stand out at Walmarts all across Central Georgia to help provide school supplies for kids in need. 

Folks can pick up a few extra school supplies and toss them in the drop-off carts at the front of the stores between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. 

Here are the Walmart locations where you can donate supplies:

Warner Robins: Watson Blvd 

Warner Robins: Booth Road 
Perry: 1009 Saint Patrick's Drive

 

Brig. Gen. Cedric George Takes Command at Robins

Two major changes came to Robins Tuesday morning as part of the Air Force wide restructuring announced last year.

Robins welcomed its new role in the Department of defense chain of command, and a new commander for its maintenance wing.

The expected pomp and circumstance, and the rows of dignitaries accompanied Tuesday's ceremony at the Museum of Aviation.

Governor Nathan Deal, former Governor Sonny Perdue and 8th District Congressman Austin Scott were just a few of the dignitaries in attendance.

They event marked an historic change for Robins.

The retirement of two flags symbolized the deactivation of the 402nd Maintenance Wing, and a name change for the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center to the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex.

Col Evan Miller, acting commander at Robins, stepped down allowing the first commander of the complex, Brig. Gen. Cedric George to step-in.

Forbes Ranks Warner Robins as 86th for Businesses, Careers

Forbes named Warner Robins as the 86th Best Small Place for Businesses and Careers. Warner Robins was also ranked as number 136 in Cost of Doing Business, Number 16 in Job Growth and Number 101 in Education.

They saw the cost of living in Warner Robins is 8.6 percent below the national average.

Sioux Falls, SD ranked number one for Best Small Place for Business and Careers. They also ranked Number Two on Forbes' list for Cost in Doing Business, Number 14 in Job Growth and Number 23 in Education.

85th is San Antonio, TX and 87th is Gulfport, MS.

Warner Robins ALC to Become Complex

Warner Robins ALC to Become Complex

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, GA.--The Warner Robins Air Logistics Center becomes part of the Air Force Sustainment Center Tuesday during a ceremony, according to a  Warner Robins Air Force Base news release. 

Brig. Gen. Cedric George will assume command of the complex.

The re-designation as a complex will help consolidate  the number of centers from 12 to five in the command.

According to the news release, "the restructure will standardize processes and save about $109 million annually."

Museum of Aviation Hosts Silent Auction

There were a lot of great items up for auction at the Museum of Aviation Saturday night. Bidders could choose from things like a Big Green Egg Grill, trips to St. Simons and Savannah, bikes, mattresses and much more.

Those were just some of over 400 items that made up the silent auction at the museum's fundraiser.

In addition to some pretty cool items, bidders at the 27th Annual Auction Raffle and Taste of Local Cuisine, had some culinary delights to taste with over a dozen restaurants helping cater the event.

"It's good for the community, it raises money for the museum, there are all kinds of programs here. The children grow up here and take these experiences on as adults," says Emily Barton.

The executive Vice Chairman of the Museum of Aviation Foundation, June Lowe says that all the money raised will help fund the education programs at the museum.

 

 

 

 

Warner Robins West Wins District 5 Championship

Rain delays pushed the Little League District 5 Championship game to Saturday, but that did not keep West from beating East for the second time in a row.

Warner Robins East played their way out of the loser's bracket after fall to West on Tuesday.

Leyton Pinckney had three home runs and helped West to the 19-0 victory.  The win marked the first time West has advanced to the state tournament.

"I felt like for us we were patient at the plate, made sure we got pitches we could hit and then our pitching and defense was fantastic," said West head coach Martin Pinckney.  "Our goal was to pitch well and play good defense and that's what I'm most proud of today."

West starts play in the state tournament next Saturday.
